The Conflict Prevention Platform (CPP): An Alternative Dispute Mechanism for Migrants
The Conflict Prevention Platform (CPP) is a volunteer-run grievance mechanism for migrant workers in Sabah's palm oil sector, born out of the RSPO Malaysian Outreach Programme piloted in 2020. Using a simple cross-platform chat group, it gives migrant workers, many undocumented and locked out of formal protections, a direct line to advocates and union reps (SPIEU) when disputes arise over wages, injuries, or exploitative conditions.
Since the pilot ended, CPP has kept running on the back of roughly six volunteers with no fixed funding, resolving 18 labour cases between 2022 and 2023 alone. The brief's core ask is for RSPO, MSPO and industry buyers to fund and formalise the platform, rather than leave it to unpaid goodwill, particularly as non-RSPO-certified companies remain the hardest to reach.
